A software engineer, Stijn Spanhove, has posted a concept video showing real-time ad-blocking on a pair of Snap Spectacles. The AI in the smart glasses recognizes advertisements in the visual field and edits them out in real-time. Current-generation consumer AI glasses can already identify what you're looking at with scary accuracy. Replacing ads is a little trickier, but technology is available, and battery life and weight are the main problems. Companies competing for the smart glasses market make it seem like only a matter of time until it's practical to achieve real-life ad-blocking. There are sociological concerns that people might edit out anything that personally annoys them, creating personal echo chambers.
